History

The route would nd would have been the main entrance route to Royds Hall at one point leading up to Royds Hall where a Manorial or Leat Court would have been held . Manorial Courts had special licence in days gone by to sort out minor legal isssues. The Old Court House was a separate bulding and is a listed Grade 2 Buikling still seen standing in the grounds of the Farm. The dam was built as a holding resevoir to supply the old Low Moor Iron Works. Looking at the 1865 map in dry weather the marks of the old tramway onto the adjacent hillslops can be traced to mineshafts located around the hill which turns into Judy Woods the consequences of this coal seam are seen in many of the old bell pits found in the woods

Safety

The Dam has open access which should be borne in mind if children are pets are present
