The Public Footpath Network consists of the Footpaths and the descriptions indicated below we encourage this network to be walked since it is under threat by developemnt . On this site we have included pictures and descriptions

If you have regualrly walked these paths for a number of years we would encoutage to you to contact us so you may fill in a user evidence form. This enables the footpath to be foramlised on a definitive Map , so it can not be lost and can be preserved for Future Generations .Please contact for a User Form.

The production of a definitive map will assist in protecting the woodland and its systematic ersoion by developers and developemnent with encroachment currently seen to its North and South Margins . The Save Our Heritage Campaign seeks to have Judy woods nominated as a Phase 2 Local Nature Reserve and will be instrumental through the will and support of its members to enable this . The FP network also forms vital access to theGreen Areas in addition to displaying the rich heritage sketched on its landscape

Many features such as the green malachite from mine workings and the smelted iron Stone from the furnaces of the Low Moor Iron works can still be seen on many of these routes . The standings of the old engine workings for pulling tram carts that worked the mines in the vicinity can also be seen and from the hill top view on dry summerds the tracks can be traced for some miles on the landscape. In parts such as the " orange Bog " the Iron ore leaches out from seams in the rock causing a bright orange discolouration ( rust !) . The woods themselves are also rich in Bell Pits from early mining days. The hillslope curves round Fenwick Drive and turns to Wyke , with a steep sided river valley containing Royds Hall Beck. These slopes are what is termed Coal Measures yielding various crude grades of coal.

All these things can be found in a green and pleasant environment . Lobby your MP Gerry Sutclife to keep it that way (01274) 40007 remind him what YOU want

Judy Woods Heritage campaign is not associated with the Friends Of Judy Woods . The Save Our Heritage Campaign have brought this service to you with no assiatnce from external funding and seeks to preserve , protect and enhance the well being of the woodland without vested interest
