Synonyms: Herb Christopher, European Baneberry, Common Baneberry
A rare plant of Limestone, which can be found locally in woods in the North of the country, mostly in Yorkshire. Usually in Beech woods, mixed Fir/Beech woodlands, cultivate Spruce mixed with Beech, deep and damp valleys. It grows from the west of Siberia to Western Europe. Baneberry generally occurs singly and not in patches.
Flowers: May-June. Fluffy white flowers. Up to 40 cm high. Strong-smelling plant.
The best known of about 11 species, which include White Baneberry (A. alba) and Red Baneberry (A. rubra) from North America.
