Goldilocks is a variable, slightly hairy perennial. It has a much more rounded lower leaves and three-lobed upper leaves, than the familiar meadow Buttercup. The yellow flowers have up to five petals of uneven sizeoften deformed., one or more maybe missing.Flower diameter c 15-25 mm Root leaves lobed to less than halfway, not trefoil Its fruits (achenes) are downy with a rounded head.
This is a plant of woodlands, hedges, rocky habitats and meadows, which often forms large colonies, particularly on heavy, fertile calcareous or neutral soils. Throughout Britain, but most frequent in the east and south.Flowers: April - May
