This highly invasive species reproduces vegetatively and forms dense monoculture stands that force out native species. It will grow almost anywhere but is often found beside waterways which assist in its reproduction.

It also causes much damage to roads and structures because of its powerful root and rhizome structure. Very difficult to eradicate as it can regrow from the smallest piece of stem remaining.
